Specialist Technician
ICT support for schools, infrastructure upkeep, device support, troubleshooting and practical advice for staff and leadership teams.
ICT technician and emerging web app builder
With 19 years experiences in supporting the infrastructure schools rely on every day, I use that same practical mindset to create clean websites, workflow tools and web applications for people and organisations both inside and outside my current role.
Profile
Through my day to day support role, I assist schools remotely and onsite at the request of schools, managers and Department priorities. I also support Central and Department initiatives, projects and rollouts across changing ICT environments.
From 2007 to 2018 I worked as a Specialist Technician. Since 2018 I have been a Roaming Specialist Technician, supporting schools, clients, end-user devices, networks, servers and department technology services across changing environments.
ICT support for schools, infrastructure upkeep, device support, troubleshooting and practical advice for staff and leadership teams.
Broader roaming support across school environments, including remote and onsite work, Department initiatives, project support and clear technical communication.
Selected projects
These are my two current anchor web projects: a self-built scripts and resources hub, and a complete helpdesk application shaped around practical support workflows.
A full PHP/MySQL web helpdesk for school ICT support, built around public ticket creation, technician queues, school visibility, admin control and scheduled automation.
A practical resource hub developed over multiple years, containing scripts and support tools I built to simplify standardisation, template deployment, audits and troubleshooting.
Infrastructure & support
Since 2016 I have also assisted Department teams with new school builds, helping take core site infrastructure from boxed equipment to racked, patched and working environments.
The infrastructure side of my career is built around planning, troubleshooting, building, documenting and keeping school technology environments running.
Wireless, servers, networking and site infrastructure, primarily across Cisco networking and Dell/HP server platforms, with growing exposure to Juniper and Meraki rollouts.
Strong interest and hands-on experience with Jamf School and Jamf Pro for Apple MDM, with additional exposure to Mosyle and Meraki device management.
If information can be stored cleanly in a database, I can reshape it into the views, workflows, reports or admin tools an end user needs.
What I am building toward
Websites, web applications, workflow tools and infrastructure support for people and teams who need practical technology that is easy to use and maintain. School-based support remains part of my main role.
Clean, responsive sites that present a person, business, community group, portfolio or service clearly without unnecessary clutter.
Request forms, dashboards, resource libraries, helpdesk flows, admin panels and other tools built around everyday work.
Turning repeated email chains, spreadsheets or manual tracking into clearer digital processes.
Maintenance, audits, reviews, upgrades and practical guidance for environments that need their technology looked at clearly.
How I work
Start with the real request, the people using it and the constraints around the system.
For web work, prioritise clear workflows, readable interfaces, sensible admin controls and maintainable foundations.
Expect tools to evolve as people discover what helps, what slows them down and what should be automated next.
Contact
I am interested in practical requests around websites, web apps, resource hubs, workflow tools and infrastructure support. The best fit is work that needs calm troubleshooting, clear communication and something people will keep using.
Tell me what you are trying to build or improve, and I will reply when I have had a proper look.
